Something about that od, lighted by fairy light and home to so much backstabbing and intrigue among the various noble houses, is just deliciously spooky. Overall, the tale told in Starless Night is somewhat legady a search-and-rescue mission that features plenty of small battle scenes and a cast of dark elf characters maneuvering different power plays as is the standard for the dark elf culture. I’m starting to feel like the bad action movie nature of these is wearing on me with each subsequent book though. The pair encounters a unicorn in the grove of Montolio and Drizzt is able to pet it.
But I can see where her storyline is going.

Not going to lie, but I felt like I forced myself to read this because of how great the earlier books were. And then happens again. Siege of Darkness debuted on the New York Times bestseller list at number I’ve decided to move straight to book 10 because the stakes were fairly high where 9 leaves off.
All the while Drizzt must fend off the weight of guilt he carries for a dear friend lost to him forever. Those parts are the strength of the book, along with Drizzt’s diary entries, which provide some more emotional heft to the ongoing story.
And Drizzt runs away from his friends at the start of the book, and is then chased down by his loyal friend and likely? I like the kindness and charm of Salvatore’s books. Catti-brie then explodes a section of the tunnel above the House Baenre compound, destroying most of the chapel dome and interrupting the ceremony of the Matron Mothers. If you aren’t familiar with the story, Drizzt is a young drow warrior. I think Salvatore was trying to remind the reader that Cattie-Brie is a young woman I think she’s 20 or younger.
